In the 4th Quarter of the Lions vs. Saints game, TE Brandon Pettigrew pushed an official after the official was separating Pettigrew from an opposing player. The penalty drew a 15 yard penalty, and most certainly will draw a fine from the NFL.

The Lions are playing one of the sloppiest games I have ever witnessed with several roughness penalties and three offensive pass interference penalties on Nate Burleson.

Stevie Johnson has been fined $10,000 for his touchdown dance where he mocked Plaxico Burress shooting himself in the leg.

For those of you who have not viewed the video, see it here on Youtube:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjAbOJA3xKU

$10,000 For a touchdown celebration is a proper penalty since the NFL continues to discourage players to have fun, and especially at the expense of others.  But what does the fine say to players?  It says, “we thought it was funny but we are going to fine you anyways”.  It definitely doesn’t send a message to other players to stop this behavior.

What are your thoughts?

Thoughts?  Can Goodell fine for haircuts?

Fines, Fines, Everywhere a Fine…..

Suh is costing the Lions…..Literally due to new NFL rules on player safety!  http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post?id=35116

Commentary:  Goodell is still attempting to control the image of the NFL, now by penalizing teams for their players misconduct.  These fines seem completely worthless.  The Lions would much rather have Suh back for the two games he will miss and would rather get back that roughness penalty that cost them on the scoreboard.  Nothing good will result out of the extra $50,000 the NFL will charge the Lions because of Suh.

No More Goodell

When will Goodell finally figure this whole NFL thing out?

Good read for the day

Slow news on fines this week and not much on Goodell this week

What would you do in Goodell’s position?

You have several coaches and players who cannot keep their mouths shut and are constantly items of interest on Youtube, Deadspin, and other media outlets, portraying negative behavior.

Do you continue to fine these players and coaches helping that a change will occur after they have had enough?

It is easy to say that Goodell is abusing his power as NFL Commissioner, but what is the proper course of action in this situation?  I believe that Ryan’s actions are more of a reflection of his personality than simply a slip of the tongue, so will a large fine be able to change the way that Ryan conducts himself?  Not a chance.  So what would?

Bills +1.5:  Bills have been great against bad teams this year, don’t expect them to lose to the Dolphins.

Lions -7: Expect a big rebound at home against a bad team.  Look at what the Lions did to the Broncos, who are better than the Panthers, and that was on the road.

Cowboys -7:  The Redskins are incapable of scoring, and the Cowboys have been lighting teams up of late.

Bears -3.5: Bears look like the 2010 Bears, expect a blowout against the quickly falling Chargers.

Giants -5:  We’re not crazy about this pick, but the Eagles have not beaten anyone on the Giants’ level this season.

The punishment has been laid down for Bears’ D.J. Moore by Goodell and the NFL, and the punishment does not fit the crime, it doesn’t come close.  D.J. Moore was fined $15,000 for going after Matthew Stafford, which caused a fight and caused Moore to be ejected from the game.  Read the story here on the fine:  http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-bears-moore-fined-15000-for-retaliating-against-stafford-20111118,0,3215485.story.

Why is the fine not enough?  Questionable hits in the past several weeks have drawn as much as $40,0o0 in fines.  Ryan Clark’s hit, seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53JM824vnDA, was a bang bang play and drew a $40,000 fine.  The hit may have been a little high, but in the heat of the moment, players can not always adjust themselves to cause a devastating yet ‘legal’ hit.  In Moore’s case, a lapse in judgement caused him to go after Stafford and start a fight during the game, which he was ejected for.  If the NFL is going to fine Clark $40,000 for a play that does not end in him being ejected from a game, then they need to fine players that are ejected for misconduct much more than that.

What do you think?
