Read week 6 NCAA Football Big 10 conference power rankings by Michael Luchies
Although the Big 10 in 2008 may be lacking a team that can make a run at the National Championship, top to bottom they are among the top 3 conferences (SEC, and Big 12). Even the worst few teams in the Big 10 would compete and possibly win against any ACC, Big East, and Pac-10 (Minus USC) school. The worst few teams in the Big 10 are Iowa, Purdue, and Indiana? That is an extremely strong bottom three.
#1. Penn State (5-0)- looks unstoppable, should win the Big 10.
#2. Ohio State (4-1)- Pryor looks amazing and is finally fitting in with the offense and taking over the team.
#3. Michigan State (4-1)- Javon Ringer for Heisman
#4. Wisconsin (4-1)- Not as strong as believed before the season. Wisconsin’s next two games are against Penn State and Ohio State.
#5. Northwestern (5-0)- Surprise of the year? Or just a weak schedule? NU had a very easy preseason schedule and their Big 10 schedule has no Penn State or Wisconsin! The schedule gods love the Northwestern Wildcats. Their next game vs. MSU should show if they are for real.
#6. Michigan (2-2)- U of M should be at the bottom of the list after the first half of last weeks game vs. Wisconsin. Lucky for U of M Wisconsin fell apart and the Wolverines took over.
#7. Minnesota (4-1)- Minnesota was unable to stay close with Ohio State but has a strong offense and can compete with most teams in the country.
#8. Illinois (2-2)- Illinois looks like a solid but not good Big 10 team this year. Explosive at times, but the defense just has not been there when needed.
#9. Iowa (3-2)- Look for Iowa to move up with a healthy Shonn Greene at running back. This weeks contest with MSU should be a classic battle of rising running backs.
#10. Purdue (2-2)- A very solid offense who dominated Oregon for 3 1/2 quarters. Somehow Purdue slipped and then kept falling down against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
#11. Indiana (2-2)- The best last place conference team in all of division 1-A football. Indiana can put points on the board, but can’t stop anyone either.
