Stevie Johnson’s $10,000 Punishment Does Fit the Crime, Doesn’t Deter Behavior

Stevie Johnson has been fined $10,000 for his touchdown dance where he mocked Plaxico Burress shooting himself in the leg.

For those of you who have not viewed the video, see it here on Youtube:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjAbOJA3xKU

$10,000 For a touchdown celebration is a proper penalty since the NFL continues to discourage players to have fun, and especially at the expense of others.  But what does the fine say to players?  It says, “we thought it was funny but we are going to fine you anyways”.  It definitely doesn’t send a message to other players to stop this behavior.

What are your thoughts?
